This is the best use of your ThinkPad Ultrabay. CD-Rom drives aren't really needed much anymore and so extending the useable battery life of the ThinkPad is a much better use of this space. The price on this battery is reasonable considering this is a genuine Lenovo battery and not a generic knock-off. The ThinkPad knows exactly what model/capacity battery is included, including keeping track of the batteries health and number of charges. The ThinkPad will drain this battery before the main battery and I wish that this was changeable but unfortunately it's not. Other than that minor issue this is a great design and the battery is highly recommended.

Worked great for the first five months - provided another 2 hours of battery life which was more than enough for me.
Unfortunately, it recently started acting up and reporting it's battery percentage inaccurately, so I used the ThinkPad Power Manager to reset the gauge. After that was finished, the battery reported 4% power and the status was inactive (not charging or discharging, despite the charger being plugged in and the main battery not installed). So, seeing as it cannot be charged anymore, I'm assuming it's basically dead. The only reason I gave it two stars is that it initially worked as promised.
Bottom line: don't buy this if you want it to last any reasonable amount of time. Others might have had better experiences, but it's clear these things don't last for most. I decided to ignore the negative reviews and paid the price (literally).

Using Gnome's Power Statistics, I see that I currently get a fully charged capacity of 24.4Wh with a design capacity of 31.3Wh. This is a significant and noticeable decrease in capacity and I do not use battery power very often.
The main battery that shipped with the laptop (now 1.5 years old) has a fully charged capacity of 41.8Wh with a design of 43.3Wh, a negligible decrease in capacity.
I do not know if this great of a reduction in capacity is expected for this battery or if mine is a poor specimen. I do recommend that anyone who buys this pay attention to the degree of loss of capacity after a couple of months.
